Mathcom Customers: Sun Microsystems
When a leading edge manufacturer uses JIT (Just In Time) inventory,
managing and tracking parts is critical to business success.
Mathcom designed, developed and implemented a specialized parts
management system for Sun. The system uses a web browser client
interface, and the server is comprised of Java Servlets and
a relational DBMS. The system can be accessed either by
web or email, and handles incoming email updates automatically.
The project involved frequently changing end user requirements
as the business process changed. Mathcom's flexible software
development process accommodated those changes easily.

Steve Sullivan has produced an application that is
secure, reliable, flexible, maintainable, configurable,
adaptable to future business changes, and intuitive for users. He
worked closely with business and IT through design and code iterations
to ensure the result would be a close fit to actual business needs.
One of the strongest indicators of the quality of Steve's work is
the fact that the user community transitioned to the new application
with almost no training, almost no confusion, and virtually no complaints.
This is almost unheard of with the introduction of an application of
this level of complexity. Steve clearly understood and appreciated
the concept of designing the application to meet the users' needs,
rather than asking the users to adapt to the application.

Through the duration of the project, we enjoyed his professional attitude -
he was consistently patient, gracious, good-humored, and focused, in
the face of moving targets and shifting requirements. He also proved
to be an effective communicator with management, users, business
process analysts, and developers. At critical
junctures, his strong commitment to the success of the project
was never disturbed by any conflict of interest. He provided excellent
training to Sun IT representatives to help them take responsibility
for maintenance of the application after the end of the project.

Steve Sullivan showed exceptional flexibility
in dealing with our changing requirements
all along the project. He was able
to accommodate all that nicely into the product, and
did not compromise quality in trying to be flexible.
In fact, since the product went live there have been
no major application issues.
Really outstanding !
